About The Event
Join us for an evening of film, food, and collective reflection on fashion, responsibility, and grassroots action.
This 99p Films social cinema event features a screening of ACTionism, a documentary exploring the environmental and social impact of the global textile industry. From overconsumption to waste, the film looks at where our clothes come from, where they end up, and the systems that shape these processes. It also shares examples of people working together to build more sustainable and fair alternatives.
At its heart, the film is about community and collective action. It invites us to think about how we consume, what alternatives exist, and how change can happen when people come together around shared values.
Programme:
🧵 Doors Open & Food Served: 6:00 PM - 7PM
🧵 Film Screening: 7 - 7:45 PM
🧵 Discussion: Served from 7:45 till 8:30
We invite you to an evening of thoughtful cinema, shared food, and open conversation. Together, we’ll explore how fashion can be a tool for change, and how collective action can lead to a more just and sustainable future.
There will be a clothing repair drop in workshop the next day to take the ideas and thoughts from the discussion and placing them into direct action - full details below!
"Join us on Saturday afternoon for a drop-in workshop celebrating the art of mending and the stories our clothes hold. Learn and share embroidery, wool darning, patching, sewing, and embellishing techniques — simple, creative ways to repair and reimagine what we wear. Bring garments with small holes, rips, stains. There will also be activities to get stuck into for those who do not have clothes to bring along on the day. All are welcome!
This gathering is about more than stitching; it’s about connection. We’ll share inspiration from those already mending and making, and welcome anyone curious to begin. Together we’ll explore what it means to be active citizens rather than passive consumers — building resilience, creativity, and community as we approach the quiet, regenerative season of winter.
Come for the making, stay for the conversation, and celebrate a uniquely Cornish spirit of resourcefulness and care. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Free – but donations welcome for repairs."
